There are three main types of heat pump systems; all of which collect energy which in turn heats water which is then used within a building/s, these include: Air to water (good efficiency) - Energy is extracted directly from the outside air (even in cold climates) and it the simplest to install. Ground source (better efficiency) - Energy is extracted from the ground via boreholes containing a loop of pipework, though which water is circulated and requires access to drop a borehole. Water to water (best efficiency) – Energy is extracted safely from natural sources of water which can make it more difficult to install.
