We are a family run business established in 1983, the current business directors started with the company in 1985 and in 1988. We are long term members of B & ES (formally the HVCA) plus Refcom Elite members and registered or approved installers of all the major manufacturers. Our own engineers are qualified to all current safe refrigerant handling regulations plus qualifications in brazing and manufacturer’s installation courses plus a vast experience in all fields of installation. Internally our staff are qualified with HNC’s, HND’s and CED Diplomas in Building Service engineering, CIBSE membership and BSRIA membership to ensure we are up to date in all relevant regulations and current standards so we can provide the best advice and service to our clients. Our business is about providing a better environment to our customers and providing low carbon heating and cooling solutions, therefore as a business we have signed up to a set of guiding principles ensuring our own carbon footprint is kept to an absolute minimum. Transport: As a Europe wide company, transport is an area where we focus much effort to reduce our footprint and includes vehicle sharing, route planning and where possible, the use of public transport. The Office: We only print when need required, our computers are switched off when not needed, photocopiers hibernate when not required, we only boil enough water to cover a tea round, our phones aren’t left on charge all day and we have installed heat pumps for our heating. Supply Chain: Toshiba, who is one of our largest suppliers are already carbon neutral and others, including Mitsubishi and Daikin are working towards the same goal. We also consider our smaller distributors and sub-contractors carbon reduction procedures before we make a commitment to use their service. The increasing amount of technology being used within the modern environment and the subsequent heat generated can produced high-level of discomfort for occupants; however with the right climate control system the ideal environment can be created for staff, customers and equipment, having a positive impact on productivity, customer relations and performance. We have been working within the retail sector for over 25 years and are used to performing within fast track programmes including co-ordinating with different trades within the pressurised retail environment. Working alongside architects from the outset of a project allows for correct cooling and heating solution which might not be possible retrospectively which helps to reduce with the buildings overall energy consumption. Similar to the service we architects, we are available to supply our product and installation knowledge to work alongside building consultants at an early design stage to assist with the introduction of ventilation, cooling, heat pump and associated services into the building layouts. The principle of air conditioning is to absorb energy from one location and release it to another location. As far as split comfort cooling / heat pump systems are concerned an indoor unit linked with an outdoor unit each sections containing heat exchangers with interconnecting pipe work linking them together. Within this system refrigerant is the medium that absorbs and releases the heat energy in various states within the indoor and outdoor units. This is known as the refrigerant cycle. In very simple terms cooling happens when an indoor fan draws hot air from the space over an internal coil called a heat exchanger. Within this coil is very cold refrigerant, the cold refrigerant absorbs the heat energy from the hot air being passed through it and the cooled air is then passed back into the space cooling it down. Comfort Cooling and Heat Pump systems are widely used in the retail and commercial sectors along with recently expanding into the domestic environment. Its aim is simply to provide occupants with comfortable conditions throughout the year by creating environments conclusive to productivity, creativity, keeping customers in store longer and in the home, a comfortable environment to provide restful sleep, relaxation and assist with some health issues. Modern technology means these systems are highly efficient with most labelled ‘A’ for energy efficiency. Heat Pumps allow renewable technology to be utilised to satisfy planning applications and can be used for underfloor heating, radiators and hot water services. Air Conditioning systems are designed for areas that require a stable internal environment in both temperature and humidity. Examples include data centres, telecommunication rooms, server spaces, IT suites and speciality service rooms and are designed to suit the exact needs to suit individual requirements. Ventilation is critical in providing a clean and healthy environment. Whilst comfort cooling controls temperature, ventilation is always required by Building Regulations (England and Wales) and Building Warrant (Scotland) and provides air change to a space promoting a healthy environment for both the occupants and fabric of the building. Good ventilation design means there is are no draughts or noise within the building environment, but just a healthy exchange of fresh air. Maintenance and Service are vitally important for the continued performance and efficiency of all installed equipment and required to maintain the manufacturer’s warranty. A bi-annual or annual service can make a considerable difference to the on-going performance of equipment increasing long term efficiency, and reducing the overall running costs and energy consumption. Regulations also require certain systems to be leak checked on an annual basis to minimise the amount of refrigerant leaking to atmosphere so providing a better environment for all. There are a number of options to utilise renewable technology and we focus on the proven heat pump technology. There are three main types of heat pump systems; all of which collect energy which in turn heats water which is then used within a building/s, these include: Air to water (good efficiency) - Energy is extracted directly from the outside air (even in cold climates) and it the simplest to install. Ground source (better efficiency) - Energy is extracted from the ground via boreholes containing a loop of pipework, though which water is circulated and requires access to drop a borehole. Water to water (best efficiency) – Energy is extracted safely from natural sources of water which can make it more difficult to install.
